Do you need to have welding tanks checked for anything?
Hi. I'm thinking about purchasing a little oxyacetylene welding/cutting setup from Harbor Freight Tools (tanks and everything included from hoses to striker to goggles). The only problem is the fact that my welding teacher keeps telling me that it's a bad idea because to get the tanks filled from pretty much anywhere, I'm going to have to get all these expensive tests run on the tanks before most places will fill them (he said something about "static testing" though i've never heard of it). I'm a little new to gas welding/cutting so any help would be appreciated. I suppose a more general form of the question would be "what do i need to do to have someplace fill my oxygen and acetylene tanks?"
Thanks
The word that you were looking for was Hydrostatic Testing. The Gas Cylinders need to be stamped in accordance to specifications of the Compressed Gas Association (CGA).
