What You Can Use For Mixed Media Art

Mixed media, from acrylic paints to ink to collage, is employed in a variety of artworks that adds texture and body to an artist's home.. Though it can be difficult to start a mixed media piece, mixed media is not as hard as it seems, and also a number of effects can be achieved. Mixed media could be as follows:

1) Light to Heavy. Place lighter mediums such as watercolour paints or even acrylic paints over the canvas or board initially before switching to heavier and thicker mediums like wax and oil paints. Create a coarse draft by drawing a graphic in pencil on the support before putting down your 1st layer of the work and then continuing with each media. Allow each layer to dry up before continuing to the next. Take care not to make your piece too heavy if you wish to hang it on the wall. 2) Pictures. Using both photographs and photo transfers lets you place text and images on the canvas. Both add a component to your own piece that's much more mechanical and defined, for pictures and textual content aren't humanly created but employed in the artwork.

3) Knives and Brushes. Making use of knives along with other items to create texture can also add interesting effects to the artwork. Modelling compound can also be used to produce eye-catching visual elements in a piece. Large paint brushes, or those with rough bristles, can emphasize brushstrokes. Knife tips may be used to produce a dented surface. Use a serrated knife to add feel to wet paint, as for corrugated metal effects. Build up surface textures using gesso, heavy body mediums to be found in craft and hobby shops, as well as modelling paste. Allow any kind of mediums not mixed with paint to dry completely just before adding other media to the surface. Use sponges to create different textures in paint, such as blurred colours for backgrounds or in organic forms. Grattage refers to scraping consistency in dried gesso, usually with a palette or serrated knife. Frottage means the manner of rubbing a pencil, charcoal or other drawing medium over an item or textured surface to create an impression of that surface. Frottage could be a useful method to start a piece by informing the lines and also shapes.

4) Discovered Objects. Found objects such as strings, feathers or any other light pieces found in your day to day life can bring an interesting dimension to your work. These types of objects can be used on top of your piece or underneath it in order to add substance as well as texture. They'll help bring significance to your artwork.

The term mixed media art signifies the use of different media in the production of one work. This can enable excellent versatility and a rich viewer experience as the eye uncovers the multiple layers which usually characterize mixed media art. The character of mixed media plays a role in its popularity within the contemporary art world, as it can blend well with conceptual visual formulation. The result could be less a direct visual statement than a technique to bring irony into play as a comment on a visual statement. At times, mixed media art is generally utilized to express political views or social statements.

can someone please help me?! I need step by step instructions for a simple corrugated cardboard chair.?

4 legs please :]
this is for a school project
the only materials i can use are corrugated cardboard and a utility knife.

There is no single design....But the main thing to consider is that cardboard can hold stop anything from bending. It is flimsy that way. It can however withstand compressive strength. If you push straight down on the sides of a box, it shouldn't buckle, but if you push on the flat top, it doesn't stand a chance.

Since cardboard can support vertical force better when positioned vertically (like the box side or wall) you're going to obviously want your legs this way. Also, to prevent minor horizontal forces from causing buckling, you're going to want to make these pillars dense. IF you check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckling it might help. But basically, the force it takes to buckle a beam or a piece of cardboard is 4 times as much if the beam is twice as wide. That force is also 4 times as much if the beam were half as long. SO basically, you want vertically oriented short pieces of cardboard clumped as tightly together as you can.

I'm sorry I don't know more about your project...I hope you get glue, otherwise you might have to make slits in the cardboard to attach them...sorta like Lincoln logs, or how you would stick the teeth of two perpendicular combs together. I'm sorry I don't have anything more specif, but I hope this information helps.
