A DIY Woodworking Plan For A Bird Feeder
Woodworking is a wonderful craft that is not only enjoyable, but also a great way to express your creativity. There is an endless list of different do it yourself woodworking projects you could get started with, one of the simplest for a bird feeder. Whether woodworking is a hobby or if it's something that you would to become highly skilled at, beginners should start off with simple a do-it-yourself woodworking project. This means taking on something simple so you don't feel overwhelmed.
There is a very basic bird feeder plan that you can try out. Some of the materials required include a dowel, shingles, cedar wood, deck screws, glue, and a window screen. First, you drill the holes so the birds can get access to the feed. Next, drill a hole that is approximately 1-1/4 inches in the center and about 4 inches or so from the base. A smaller hole, about 1/4 inches, should be placed right about the larger one.
The rule of thumb when cutting wood is to measure twice before cutting. It’s far better to have cut a piece too large and just have to trim off the excess, rather than cut it too small and waste wood having to start all over. Then you want to cut two sides at 1 ½ x 6” and the front just a bit larger at 1 ½ x 8”. Now you need to put together all the different pieces.
Now that you have all your pieces, you can start joining them together and actually create your bird feeder. Next, the sides will be mounted by countersinking two holes in the back; then proceed to glue the two sides to the rear. While applying glue, hold for 10 seconds to be sure that pieces are well attached. Once all the pieces have been put together, pound two nails at the joinings for additional security.
After attaching the front and bottom, then you can add nails. All you need to do now is nail the stake onto the back and put the bird feeder outside in the ground. Then glue the bird feeder and the stake together, and hammer in a few more nails if necessary. As you get more experience and build your woodworking skills, you can start working on more advanced projects.

What's the best way to drill a hole through a eucalyptus pod/bud?
I have a project where I have to drill through eucalyptus pods/buds to string them together. I've been using a countersink drill bit and alternating that with a glass/tile drillbit. Still, it's taking me 30 mins to drill through one bud!! Anyone have any ideas to make this go faster?
Sounds like your drill bit is blunt, buy a new one of the right size, made for wood, and when you drill, make sure the drill is set to low speed otherwise you may burn the pod and blunt the drill bit. Good luck
