Refinishing Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood floors are a valued asset to a home and are an inexpensive home remodeling project. You want to treat them with care and respect if you plan to refinish them. Refinishing hardwood floors takes a little time, effort, and patience if you would like to do it right. Guage whether your hardwood surfaces will have to be completely refinished or perhaps just cleaned and polished. If you have hardwood flooring that are awfully scratched or stained, you might need to do repairs on them first before sanding and refinishing. Be sure that you use caution when sanding floors that are less than inches thick. If you have remarkably thin hardwood surfaces, consider hiring a pro to help refinish the floors so you don't incidentally sand them down too far.
Prepare your room for sanding by first removing the furnishings and all the other items from the room. It's best to seal the room off from other areas of the house as well by putting up plastic on the doors to keep the fine dust made while sanding from settling throughout the rest of the house. Cover the light fittings and electrical outlets in the room as well to guard them from sanding dust also.
After you have prepared the whole room for the refinishing process, you will need to sweep and vacuum your hardwood surfaces. This could get them prepared for sanding.
You will need two different sanding tools for this project. A drum sander will be the first sanding tool you can use on your hardwood flooring. You can rent a drum sander at a lot of home-improvement centres or tool rental shops Sand down your floors with the drum sander first. Be sure to air out the room you are working in as much as is possible by opening windows and doors and employing a fan. Put on a mask to protect your lungs from the fine sanding dust made while using the drum sander.
After you've sanded down the bulk of the floor, you'll need to employ a hand sander to get into the corners and along the walls. When you finish sanding down the entire surface of the floor, you can ideally need to repeat the sanding process again with a finer grit of sandpaper. Once you've finished sanding the floor, vacuum the room to remove the sanding dust and perhaps wipe the floor with a dry rag to pick up any dust that was left in the dust.
To finish your project, you'll have to stain or seal your floors. Select a product that appeals to you and do a test in an inconspicuous place on your floors to make certain it is the color that you want! Then follow the instructions on the can exactly to end the project.
