We all grew up giving gift for holidays and birthdays or just because. Most of us grew up with little money. A lot of us including me grew up with very little money. My parents worked hard for everything that they had and everything that they gave to us. {I think this is why anything extra that was given felt like a gift}.My mother has always been very giving.

As adults we try to learn what we were taut as children and give just because. I try to buy items on sale and one of a kind gifts to pick up, I know someone would like and store them away for a rainy day. And when it comes time for a present I already have them on hand. My favorite thing to do is find one of a kind gifts to give to who I’m getting it for so it fits there personality some people like to make unique gift basket. This is where the small things I pick up through the year come into play. Just buying a pre-made basket doesn’t show care and have a lot of filler.
If you do have time then starting with a unique item to hold the objects that best complements the person along with the insides. I’ve use lots of things. Sometimes the container is the main gift and other times it simply holds the other items together. The unique gift baskets that I gave my sisters for Christmas were by far my favorite. My ex mother in law was a wonderful gardener. They have beautiful backyard gardens. I started my gifts by purchasing sturdy watering cans that would be the basket for the gift. Inside I placed a pair of shears for cutting flowers, a hand prune , a hand held spade and rake for potting plants and a mister to apply pesticides. On the handle of the water can I tied a pair of garden gloves that were folded together and fanned out to look like a bow. My ex-mother in-law loved the basket. Giving someone a summery gift makes the winter go by a little faster and gives them something to look forward to.
Giving baskets with personal care is a good idea also. You can make your own unique baskets instead of the pre bought ones. That way you can give them what fits them the most their favorite perfume or the all time favorite candy. Two years ago for Christmas we gave three families that we exchange gifts with a family gift basket. These unique gift baskets included a deck of cards, a card game, dice and rules for a dice game, a box of microwave popcorn, several boxes of movie theater candies, and certificates for movie rentals at the neighborhood video store and a certificate for a take and bake pizza. The basket or container to hold these items can be a popcorn bowl hard to find but when you do it makes a great base. It makes families come together I know I loved family night even though I didn’t want to admit it then. Its fun to make them and when you give them because every basket is made just for that person so use your imagination and have fun putting them together.
Flat spade-like gardening tool... what is it?
Today at a garage sale I saw a gardening tool that looks kind of like a spade. Here is a crude picture:

Unlike a spade, the face of the blade was flat, NOT concave. The edges of the head were in a straight line with the haft. The blade was shaped like a half circle about ten inches across at the flat edge. Any idea what this thing is, and what it is was used for?
i would say either a scraper or hoe.
