Great ideas for merchandise for your band

Branded Merchandise for your band is a great way not only to get your name out there to the public at large, but also to generate abit of cash to go back into the band kitty. Heres a few ideas for promotional merchandise.

  • t-shirts. The classic for any band. Fans of the band may buy your cd once, but theyll usually buy two or three t-shirts just to demonstrate thier love for the group, so this has the potential to be the biggest money maker for any band. The more shockingly, offensive, funny the t-shirt is the better -Metal bands 'Cradle of Filth' and 'Cannibal Corpse' have made loads of money from their parents and church baiting t-shirts.
  • Lighters. Its the musical cliches that people bring out there lighters for the slow song. Being a lighter as well is a great way to get smokers to part with some money to show they love your band. The throwaway lighters may be cheaper, but a zippo lighter will look much cooler. Though zippos do cost ALOT to get engraved and youll probably have to pass on those costs to your fans.
  • 'Hoodies'. Band hoodies go for more money than t-shirts, as most usually go between £15-£35, depending on the band and can also be worn as much as t-shirts. It could be an easy idea just to transfer your t-shirt idea onto the Hoody, or come up a design that compliments the shirt as a must have accessory for it.
  • Patches. These can be sewn onto your jeans or your denim jacket to demonstrate your love of a band. They usually come in different sizes so you can go getting big ones for a leather jacket back patch, or smaller ones for trousers. A great design will stand out from all the other patches as some people can place tons on their jackets.
  • Sweatbands. Although finding a company that does sweatbands is hard to find, they can be another good band item to have. Hopefully everybody should be sweating at your gig either moshing, dancing or headbanging, so the sweatband sales will more likely pick up towards the end of the gig.
