High-Powered Shot Blast Guns For Industrial Cleaning - ToolsRUs
Propelling a high-speed stream of abrasive material at a surface, shot blast guns are used in many industries. Suitable for cleaning, smoothing or even shaping metal, concrete, brick and other hard materials, this portable tool requires a high amount of air pressure. The process may also be used to remove stuck-on contaminants such as oil or grease from a surface. Similar to a high-pressure water blaster, shot blasting uses an abrasive material like sand, aluminium oxide, silicon carbide and more to blast a surface. Unlike shot blasting units which are fixed, freestanding machines, shot blast guns are moved to the surface to be cleaned.
Relatively lightweight, blast guns can be maneuvered around an object. Fixed blasting machines require that products go into or pass through them, while blasting guns work in an open environment. This is especially handy when the surface to clean is a masonry wall or concrete swimming pool. Covering a large area may be time consuming because shot blast guns have a spray radius of limited size.
The most common type of media used with blast guns is silica sand. It breaks up quickly and generates a lot of dust, so operators must take the proper precautions. Also frequently used is metallic shot made from steel, zinc, aluminium, copper or wire cuttings. These hard abrasives are best suited to cleaning or altering durable surfaces like metal. More sensitive media should be used, however, if you're blasting stone, brick, glass, circuit boards or other relatively delicate objects. Alternative materials include corn starch, sodium bicarbonate, dry ice and crushed nut shells or fruit kernels. These are known as soft abrasives.

Containers known as blast pots connect to a blast gun, inside of which the media is combined with pressurized air. Powered by an air compressor, a mixture of air and abrasive is drawn through the system and gun and out the nozzle. Wet blasting is another method which includes water into the mix creating slurry. Although wet blasting doesn't allow you to recycle the media for later use, it does cut down on dust. Blast guns are used to clean brick, stone, steel girders, boat hulls and to remove layers of paint, among other things.
do they still make silver replacement lens for welding helmets?
Wow I haven't seen one of those in a while. The local welding supply in my area only has gold. You might ask you local weld supply house if they can still get them.
